DOMESTIC VIOLENT EXTREMISM

Domestic violent extremism poses one of the greatest terrorism-related threats to the United States. According to the Federal Bureau of Investigation, domestic terrorism is defined as violent, criminal acts committed by individuals and/or groups to further ideological goals stemming from domestic influences, such as those of political, religious, social, racial, or environmental nature and includes activities:

Involving acts dangerous to human life that are a violation of the criminal laws of the United States or of any State.
Appearing to be intended to:
- Intimidate or coerce a civilian population.
- Influence the policy of government by intimidation or coercion; or
- Affect the conduct of a government by mass destruction, assassination or kidnapping; and
Occurring primarily within the territorial jurisdiction of the United States.

The reporting and sharing of information are vital for identifying and examining trends across the State in efforts to keep the public and law enforcement safe and knowledgeable. Significant and detailed reporting allows for a greater statewide threat view as well as the ability to provide more specific statistics and information within areas across the State.
